What is gluten?

Gluten is a family of protein found in specific grains that can lead to celiac disease. Celiac disease is a chronic conditions that affects the intestinal mucosa (inner wall) of the small intestine. It is regarded as an auto-immune disease. People who suffer from celiac disease and keep eating gluten can have a reaction where the body creates anti-bodies that attack the body's own cells. This severly damages the intestines and lead to food passing to the large intestine before being digested. This can lead to less nutrients being absorbed and a range of complaints.

These complaints can include:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Infertillity
  • Depression
  • Growth deficientcy amongst children
  • Moodiness
  • Anemia
  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Decrease of bone tissue
  • General sense of being sick
